It was the last weekend of the 2009 season for the DTM, EURO F3 and EURO FORMULA RENAULT series last weekend, 23rd-25th October.
JAMIE GREEN drove a typically skillful and ‘ballsy’ race in Hockenheim, Germany, as he went from eighth on the grid to finish fifth and end the season as the top 2008 DTM car. Jamie is a new man and has revelled in the challenge of being in an old car this season. He is stronger, fitter and he seems liberated by having to perform on the back foot every week against the 2009 cars that are supposed to be up to 1 second-a- lap quicker than the 08’s.
Jamie has great spirit, a quiet self-belief and is highly regarded by those who know a top driver when they see one. If things had gone his way he should have been racing in Formula One by now. Highlight of the season has to be his audacious and brilliant drive to victory at the Norisring, Germany earlier this year. You can catch the amazing last 7 laps on youtube.
ALEXANDER SIMS finished his ‘rookie’ season in the ultra- competitive Euro Formula 3 in fourth place. It was a great achievement and yet he only just missed out on third place in the Championship. He was on the way to victory at Hockenheim in the final race of the season when he was hit by two cars and as result, had to settle for 4th in the Championship.
Alexander was my first client after leaving McLaren and F1 in 2007 and I am very proud of his achievements and his physical and mental growth both inside and outside the car. I really believe he has the talent, fitness and work ethic to reach the highest level. I have done since the first day I met him.
Reigning Formula Renault UK Champion, DEAN SMITH, drove to an excellant second place at Argon, Spain last weekend. He was using the Euro Formula Renault race as a familiarity exercise for his upcoming WORLD SERIES BY RENAULT test on Tuesday. However, he drove brilliantly to overtake the eventual Championship winner near the end of the the race to reach the second step of the podium.
Dean has been working with me for the last two months and his fitness and self- belief have rocketed. Like all the guys who work with me, Dean has an inner toughness and dedication to all the components that make a top racing driver.
Great job, guys.
