Last weekend I worked with David Coulthard as he made his DTM debut for Mercedes at Hockenheim, Germany.
It was the first time DC and I had worked together at a race since his last McLaren appearance in Sao Paolo, Brazil in 2004. It seemed like yesterday though. It was his first race for 18 months.
It is a totally different car and situation for David but he was as professional as always. I really admire his decision to return to racing. He has a tremendous respect from all of those who know about Motor-racing. After all, this guy could beat Michael Schumacher at his best. He is willing to challenge himself in a very different envoirement to what he is used to and there are many drivers out there would not put their reputations on the line. But DC is a born racer. It is in his DNA.
The aim was to finish the race and get to know the car as best as possible in this first round. DC achieved that and finished 12th on Sunday making up five places from the start. He and the team will learn from this and hopefully build on this solid effort.
The next round is in Valencia in May.
